North Portland Family Of 3 Dead In Murder/Suicide
Portland, OR September 7, 2007 1:38 p.m.
A North Portland family is dead Friday, after being poisoned by carbon monoxide -- piped into the house from a car exhaust. As Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, police are calling it a homicide/suicide.
Portland Police were sent to the home of John Kuca, Luray Hodder and their 5-year-old, Ruby Kuca, after someone in California got an e-mail reporting a suicide effort.
The family friend relayed the information to police, who rushed to the house. They found a hose between a bedroom window and the exhaust of a hearse parked in the driveway.
Sergeant Brian Schmautz says there was also a suicide note.
Brian Schmautz: “Adults make these decision sometimes, you just wish that they would leave the kids out of it.”
Schmautz says police carried all three people outside to perform CPR, but to no avail. One officer was taken to hospital after being overcome by fumes.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
