A New Tool For Diagnosing Breast Cancer
Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer after having MRIs have a lot of questions. Among them might be, "Is there any more cancer the MRI isn't showing?" That's where BSGI comes in.
It stands for Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging. It's a new procedure, and it found additional cancer in nearly 11 percent of the women in a recent study.
These were women who were recently diagnosed with breast cancer using MRI.
Nathalie Johnson led the research. She's a surgical oncologist in Portland, and she tells us how BSGI works.
