Landscape architect Carol Mayer-Reed displays her thoughts on how to bridge development could help on Hayden Island
A design and architecture group in Portland is asking the community and policy makers to think bigger when planning for a new I-5 span across the Columbia river.PDXplore is holding an exhibit this week to raise awareness of all the other ways a project as large as the Columbia River Crossing would or could impact the region.  The issues they raise include land use, development and public access to the water.Architect Mike McCulloch said people need to look past simple questions such as how many lanes of traffic the new bridge will hold. "To miss all the other dimensions of this project, the symbolic dimensions, the lyrical dimensions, the future development dimesions, is to miss the majority of what this project could be about," he said. The exhibit is free and open to the public at the Pacific Northwest College of Art.For more information, please visit pdxplore.org .
