Oregon Veterans Affairs officials added five names to the Afghan-Iraqi Freedom Memorial in Salem Friday to commemorate Memorial Day. Andrew Theen was there.
US Army Veteran Tom Mann read off the names.

Add to that Sergeants Zachary McBride and Mikeal Miller, and Private First Class A.R. Young, all of whom died in service in Iraq or Afghanistan during the past year. Their names join more than 100 others on the memorial.
Val Conley is a state VA administrator. She said most can't comprehend the sacrifices families make.
Val Conley: "It is our obligation to teach our youth that nothing comes without cost, and that sacrifices are meaningless without remembrance."
The ceremony came on the date originally observed as Memorial Day.
