Multnomah County Set To Open New Library In Troutdale
Multnomah County just passed inspection for its newest library. Now, as Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, the new facility will open its doors Monday.
The 6,000 square foot facility is located in an old shopping center in Troutdale. It's filled with 20,000 books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and 16 state-of-the-art computers.
New scanners near the doors will allow patrons to check as many as 10 items out at a time; there's free wifi; and you can even use your cell phone -- if you're on a work-related website and trying to get a job.
County library director, Vailey Oehlke, says it's not your Dad's library.
Vailey Oehlke: "We're really trying to emphasis the fact that we are paying attention to the world as it changes around us. And we're stepping up and ensuring that not just the facilities, but the services we provide really address the needs of our changing community."
For the changing community of Troutdale, the library will offer 1,500 Spanish language items. A third of the staff are also fluent Spanish speakers.
