Mercy Corps Workers Released In Pakistan

Portland-based Mercy Corps says three employees kidnapped this past February in Pakistan have been released by their captors.  All three are unharmed and are being reunited with their families in Pakistan.

Mercy Corps suspended its operations there last month, after a fourth employee was killed by his abductors.

The 52-year-old driver named Habibullah was the father of nine children.

Spokeswoman Joy Portella says Mercy Corps offices in Pakistan remained closed.

Joy Portella: "We’re very committed to the people of Pakistan, to improving the humanitarian situation there, but certainly the security and safety of our own people is our number one priority.  We want to make sure that they can do their jobs in safety."

Portella says Mercy Corps is in the process of determining when, if ever the group can resume work there.

Portella says the group has no timeline for that decision.
