Lewis And Clark Dragged Into Measure 49 Campaign
Lewis and Clark Law School is complaining about a campaign letter against Ballot Measure 49.
One common tactic in ballot measure campaigns is to send what look like personal letters to hundreds of thousands of voters.
One of those against Ballot Measure 49 came from Jim Huffman, the former dean of Lewis and Clark Law School. But the current dean of the school Robert Klonoff says the envelope the letter was mailed in made it look like it came from Lewis and Clark.
And he wants the group that sent it to send another letter clarifying that the law school is neutral on the measure.
Robert Klonoff: "This really isn’t about the position that’s taken. We would feel this way regardless of which side is using our name. We don’t think that any side should be allowed to improperly use our name."
But Dave Hunnicut with the group opposed to Measure 49 called Klonoff’s complaint “preposterous”
He said the letter says it's from the “personal desk of Jim Huffman”. Hunnicut says he’s even looking into a libel suit against Lewis and Clark.
