Leonard Will Not Become Police Commissioner

Portland city commissioner Randy Leonard will not become the first non-mayor in recent memory to run the city's 1000 officer police bureau. Leonard announced his intention to stop lobbying for the job late yesterday. Sam Adams suggested shortly after winning the race for Portland mayor last May that he was considering Leonard for police commissioner. But tensions between Leonard and the popular police chief, Rosie Sizer, led Sizer to state that she might step down, if that happened. Sizer declined to comment on Leonard's announcement. She told The Oregonian newspaper that she's waiting to see if Adams decides to become police commissioner himself, or name one of the other three members of city council.
