Legislators Wrestle With Keeping Schools Open

Oregon lawmakers have to find ways to close a projected $855 million gap for the fiscal year that ends in June.

Originally, they planned to use some federal stimulus money to partially make up for the shortfall.  However, most school districts would have had to cut about a week of classes this year.

Now Democrats in the Legislature say they’ve figured out a way to keep that from happening.  Joining us now to talk about this development is our Salem correspondent, Chris Lehman.
