Kulongoski Travels South For Climate Summit
Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski will spend most of this week in California. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
The governor will make opening comments for the second global climate summit for so called subnational leaders.
It’s hosted by California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and will be attended by former-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and the governors of seven U.S. states.
There will also be leaders from countries like Canada, Mexico Brazil and Indonesia.
The governor’s spokeswoman, Anna Richter Taylor, says Kulongoski will talk about the effect of climate change on the economy.
Anna Richter Taylor:“He will also participate on two additional panels, one focusing on innovation and technology. He will also serve on a panel about the importance of states and local governments leading the way on this issue. I think Oregon is a prime example of a state that has taken a leadership level and ultimately states can serve as a model of what can work on a national and international level.”
The meeting is aimed at getting prepared for the United Nations climate summit in Copenhagen this winter.
