Klootchy Creek Giant Spruce Succumbs To Wind Storm

Yesterday's strong winds and heavy rains got the best of a state icon. The Klootchy Creek Sitka Spruce, heralded by highway signs as the world's tallest, toppled to the ground. The 216-foot tall tree was damaged in last year's wind storm; since then, visitors were kept back a safe distance for when the inevitable should happen.
It finally did.
We called Jim Renner, the manager of the Oregon Heritage Tree Council, who shared some of the history and future of the Klootchy Creek Giant.
