Kitzhaber and Dudley Pull Away In Fundraising Race
The Oregon primary election is six weeks away. In the race for governor, Republican Chris Dudley and Democrat John Kitzhaber have each pulled away from their competitors when it comes to fundraising. Former Governor John Kitzhaber is closing in on the $1 million mark. The Democrat is raking in cash from unions: $45,000 in the past week alone. Another Democrat, former Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, has pulled in less than half of what Kitzhaber has. On the Republican side, businessman Allen Alley has pulled in nearly a $500,000. But former NBA-player Chris Dudley has crossed the $1 million mark with no signs of slowing down. Pacific University political analyst Jim Moore says Dudley has been spending the money he raises, but curiously little on mass advertising. “He's doing great in terms of lining up donors, but spending the money is another matter entirely and we're waiting to see what happens with that," he said.Another Republican candidate, former state lawmaker John Lim, is a distant third in the money race behind Alley and Dudley. In fact, Lim is on pace to raise less in his race for governor than he did in his final race for the Oregon House.© 2010 Northwest News Network
