Intel Settles Antitrust Case With FTC
Intel and the Federal Trade Commission announced Wednesday they've reached a tentative settlement in their antitrust case.
The FTC filed suit last year alleging Intel illegally used its dominance in the microprocessor market, to squelch competition in the video chip market.
The video market is much more competitive, with Intel battling companies like Nvidia and AMD for share.
If ratified, the settlement stops Intel from offering discounts to dissuade its customers from doing business with a rival. It also stops the company from retaliating against customers who do go with other companies.
One thing the settlement doesn’t do is levy a fine. Intel has already paid out almost three billion dollars to end similar complaints from the European Union and AMD.
In a statement, Intel admits to no wrongdoing.
In a news conference the FTC Chair Jon Leibowitz said the settlement should benefit consumers.
