Idaho Judge Halts Large Truck Shipments For Now
A northern Idaho judge has ordered the state to not allow four huge trucks to ship oil equipment on a two-lane highway through Idaho...at least for now.
Judge John Bradbury issued a temporary restraining order Tuesday.
ConocoPhillips had asked the state for permission to run the trucks from the Port of Lewiston over U.S. Highway 12 to Billings, Montana. It’s a two-lane road through mountainous terrain.
Attorney Laird Lucas from the group Advocates for the West represents local critics of the plan.
Laird Lucas: "We're very pleased that the judge saw at least enough merit in our filings to issue this initial injunction."
Bradbury says he'll hold a hearing Friday morning in Grangeville, Idaho to consider a request for a preliminary injunction.
An Idaho transportation department official says the state will comply with the judge's ruling and put the oil shipments on hold.
