Horsedrawn Auction Runs This Weekend In Madras
In the market for a covered wagon? If so, you're in luck, as the Small Farmer’s Journal annual Horsedrawn Auction and Swap Meet is running through Sunday in Madras.
Central Oregon correspondent Ethan Lindsey reports.
Here’s one item listed in the salebill: Miniature covered wagon for pony. Two seats and brakes. Amish made, like new.
Or perhaps you’re looking for a genuine sleigh, imported from Sweden.
A whole lot of similar animal-powered farm machinery is for sale over the weekend.
Kristi Miller and her husband own and publish the Small Farmer’s Journal. They’ve run the auction for 31 years.
Kristi Miller: “This is a marketplace where people can sell and buy. A lot of these items are no longer being manufactured. A horse-drawn mower is one of those things someone will find in the blackberry bushes and drag it out and rebuild it and bring it here and sell it for $2500.”
Miller says this year she expects fewer visitors, because of the recession – but then again, she’s seen more people looking to sell things.
