FTC Postpones Prosecution Of Intel Case
Intel and the Federal Trade Commission have agreed to a legal time-out. Kristian Foden-Vencil reports.
The Federal Trade Commission has issued an order postponing its prosecution of the commuter chip giant -- so the two sides can work on an agreement.
The FTC filed suit against Intel last year, saying the company abused its position in the market. The FTC alleged Intel was illegally using its dominance in the microprocessor market, to squelch competition in the video graphics-chip market.
The graphics-chip market is much more competitive, with Intel battling companies like Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices.
In a statement, Intel says the postponement gives lawyers on each side time to review and discuss a possible agreement.
The deadline for any agreement is July 22nd. After that, prosecutors could spring back into action.
