The race to replace John Kroger as Oregon Attorney General is finally heating up. Former US Attorney for Oregon Dwight Holton said Wednesday that he's seeking the Democratic nomination.

Holton served as interim US Attorney for more than a year before the White House chose someone else for the role. Holton worked for the US Department of Justice for more than a decade and recently took a job with a Portland law firm.

"I bring to the table a track record of leadership, experience and results right here in Oregon, throughout the entire state, of making communities safer and stronger," Holton says. "And that's what I'd like to do as Attorney General for Oregon."

Holton joins former judge Ellen Rosenblum and Portland attorney Katherine Heekin in the race for the Democratic nomination. No Republicans have announced their intention to run for Oregon Attorney General.

The office unexpectedly came up for grabs when incumbent Democrat John Kroger announced three months ago that he would not seek a second term. He cited an unspecified health problem for his decision.
