Friday morning, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released its long-awaited final plan for recovering the northern spotted owl.

The iconic bird has long been the subject of legal logjams over how to manage old growth forests in the Northwest.

The spotted owl was listed as threatened 18 years ago, and federal officials acknowledged Friday that the owl remains in danger of disappearing.

Rob Manning has been following the story and he spoke with OPB’s Allison Frost.
