Fireworks Show Returning To Fort Vancouver
Fort Vancouver announced Wednesday that it will once again host a Fourth of July Fireworks celebration. The recession brought down the 46-year-old holiday tradition last year. Sam Sanders reports.
Elson Strahan is the President of the Fort Vancouver National Trust, which coordinates the fireworks. He says the public outcry was loud after the display was cancelled last year.
Elson Strahan: "The message was clear. Our community treasures this event, and the Fort Vancouver National Trust was urged to find a way to bring back this celebration of our nation's independence."The group brought on sponsors like Bank of America and tapped into proceeds from local firework sales.
This year, you'll have to buy $5 tickets to attend. And Fort Vancouver won't be setting off the fireworks on a barge in the Columbia River.
So backers recommend securing a spot at the event to see the sky light up.
