Finding An Interim Fit For Lariviere's Fedora

With University of Oregon president, Richard Lariviere on his way out, U of O's Senate is meeting Wednesday  with the state's chancellor.

U of O's next president will be on the agenda.

University System officials say they have a short list of up to four candidates to be U of O’s interim president.

Higher education board members and the University system chancellor George Pernsteiner plan to narrow that list when they meet with faculty and students this week, and have someone in place before Lariviere leaves in a month.

The chancellor's office wouldn't disclose who's on the "short list," but said interim candidates tend to be on campus – or near it, and have ties to the university.

Officials say an interim president might be in place anywhere from six to 18 months, depending on how long it takes to hire a permanent president.

Higher ed board members voted unanimously Monday night to terminate Lariviere's contract. They pointed to "trust" issues.

Lariviere says he plans to join the faculty, after his presidency ends December 28th. His contract pays him $245,000 -- the equivalent of a year’s pay -- and allows him to teach as a tenured professor.
