Family Holds Funeral For Man Killed In Traffic Stop
The family of a young Portland man killed in a traffic stop last week said a final goodbye Wednesday. April Baer reports on the funeral of Keaton Otis.
Rain came down in sheets outsde Genesis Community Fellowship Church, but inside, a standing-room-only crowd sang, cried, and told stories about twenty-five year old Keaton Otis.
Otis' aunt, Stephanie Burlie, sang a tribute.
Padraic Ansbro was a family friend who worked with Otis on volunteer projects. Speaking over a PA system, Ansbro said he never met a nicer kid.
Padraic Ansbro: "Talk about a respectful courteous, loving, kind, giving, service-oriented young man – that was him."
Mayor Sam Adams attended, but didn't speak at the service.
Otis had virtually no police record when he was pulled over near Lloyd Center last week.
The Police Bureau says Otis fired on the officers in the course of their confrontation, but few details are known about the escalation of events.
A Grand jury will hear more about the incident Friday.
