Eugene Enjoys Successful Olympic Trials Run
The Track and Field Olympic Trials are getting rave reviews from Lane County officials, out of towners and event organizers. As Andrew Theen reports, organizers are saying the success shows Eugene is still "Track Town U.S.A."
The last time Eugene played host to the Olympic Trials Jimmy Carter was President.
But after 28 years of waiting, Eugene will only have to wait another four for the trials to return.
Trials co-director Vin Lananna called the event "glorious." He said there are minor tweaks to the fan festival and other issues to address by 2012, but Lananna said there's much to cheer about.
Vin Lananna: "I think the fans were treated to something very special this week, the spectators enjoyed it but more importantly I think the athletes had a great experience here. We hoped they have. That was our objective when we put this thing together."
Officials with the Lane County Convention and Visitors Association say so far it appears the county will meet or exceed its estimate of bringing in close to $30 million over the 10-day period.
