Elections Office Certifies November Results
Oregon's Elections Division has certified results from the November elections. As April Baer reports, the numbers tell the story of a changing electorate.
The big question was whether Democrats -- who registered about 10,000 new voters this election cycle -- could get those people to turn in their ballots for the general election.
The answer is a resounding yes. For the first time in a long time, more Democrats voted in an Oregon election than Republicans.
Don Hamilton is a spokesman for Secretary of State Bill Bradbury.
Don Hamilton: "The Republicans had a particularly high hurdle this year in that Democrats so vastly outnumbered them by the largest margin in raw numbers that we've ever seen in Oregon history."
While Barack Obama received a torrent of votes -- more than any other presidential candidate ever has in Oregon -- the top vote getter was Democrat John Kroger, candidate for Oregon Attorney General.
Since he was on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, he drew a whopping 1,096,000 votes.
