Dudley Proposes Business Tax Cuts

Oregon Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Dudley says if elected he’d push for tax breaks for businesses to stimulate job growth.

Those include credits for businesses that hire people on public assistance.

Dudley unveiled his job creation plan Wednesday at a gathering of the Albany Chamber of Commerce.

Dudley said he’d also push for a major cut in taxes on capital gains.

Dudley said the amount of revenue the state loses would be offset by increased business activity.

Chris Dudley: “I think where it’s tricky to project what exactly the impact is, is because you can look at it and say here you have less tax coming in, but on the other hand you can say that there will be more overall tax revenues coming in, a bigger pie of which to take that slice from.”

Democratic candidate John Kitzhaber said Dudley’s plan relies on expensive tax cuts with no clear plan to pay for them.

Kitzhaber says he’s open to cutting taxes on capital gains but he says any discussion of that needs to specify what state services would be cut to offset the lost revenue.
