Company Recalls Eggs Linked To Salmonella Outbreak
An Iowa company is recalling 380 million eggs. The eggs have been linked to Salmonella outbreaks at restaurants in California, Minnesota, and Colorado.
And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suspects the eggs have sickened people in dozens of other states.
Emilio DeBess is with Oregon Public Health. He says one person in Oregon became sick after eating at a California restaurant that has been linked to the outbreak.
Seven other Oregonians had salmonella that may have been caused by the tainted eggs. DeBess says it’s hard to tell.
Emilio DeBess: "This particular strain of salmonella, this Salmonella enteritidis is extremely common. It’s not only found in eggs but it’s found in other items as well."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began investigating Wright County Egg after it noticed a spike of a thousand more salmonella cases than usual in July.
The recalled eggs are packaged under dozens of names, including Lucerne, Farm Fresh, and Pacific Coast.
People who believe they have bought the eggs should throw them out or return them to the store for a refund.
