Oregon's coastal businesses are enjoying a huge mid-week boom.  Crowds are flocking in from the Willamette Valley, and even Seattle and Vancouver B.C. to cool off.

Cher Leonhardt  manages the Lanai, a hotel in Seaside, and she's booked solid.

Cher Leonhardt   "Tons of people. Just tons of people. We had our day off last Tuesday, and my husband and I went down to get our feet wet at the beach and there were just thousands of people down at the end of the promenade."

At Cannon Beach, it's a similar story. Even a thick cover of fog hasn't kept people from packing the streets. The city Chamber of Commerce says only a handful of hotels have openings.

From Portland to Salem, hotel rooms are getting scarce, with some places nearing 100 percent occupancy, boosted by walk-in traffic.

Downtown Portland's  Governor Hotel -- already enjoying some last-minute bookings in air-conditioned rooms --  offered a two-hour promotion Thursday.  Passersby could win a free one-night stay.
