Cheese Lovers Celebrate In Oregon
This Saturday, foodies will descend on the small southern Oregon town of Central Point to celebrate cheese. The Sixth Annual Oregon Cheese Festival takes place at the Rogue Creamery, which has gained international acclaim for its Rogue River Bleu and other artisan cheeses. David Gremmels is co-owner and cheesemaker. He also heads the American Cheese Society. Gremmels says Oregon's artisan, farmstead cheese movement is a leader nationally."There are more cheeses being produced in Oregon. More styles. It's beautiful. There's just such a renaissance. I'm seeing great cheeses made of goat milk, of sheep milk, of cow milk and blended milk cheeses," he said.Gremmels says the festival will have farmers market feel with food producers all gathered under a big tent. Besides artisan cheese makers, wineries, breweries and other specialty food producers will be there. The Oregon Cheese Festival is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rogue Creamery in Central Point, just north of Medford.© 2010 KLCC
