We're a long way away from the Gulf oil spill here in Oregon. But as Kristian Foden-Vencil reports, the disaster is having unexpected effects on at least one local company.

Giant Loop is a relatively new company in Bend. It makes big bags that strap onto motorcycles -- so you can carry luggage while you're biking around.

Founder and designer, David Wachs, was watching news of the oil spill recently when he noticed the containment booms had the same distinctive colors as his bags.

A call to his supplier confirmed all the orange and yellow fabric he uses is either already deployed in the Gulf or being made into new booms.

David Wachs: "The silver lining for us is we're going to do a special edition in gray until we can get this material again. People have asked for other colors all along and it's just an opportunity for us really."

But Wachs isn't too worried. He expects it's only going to be a couple of months until he can get the material in his standard colors again.
