Baker City Councilor, Mayor Beat Recall

Baker City Mayor Dennis Dorrah and city councilor Beverly Calder said Wednesday they have a mandate to move forward with the city’s business.

Voters rejected, by a 2-to-1 margin, an effort to recall the two, who fired the city manager in June.

Dorrah says he thinks other Oregon communities can draw a lesson from the failed recall.

Dennis Dorrah: "Disagreeing with a decision is not a reason for a recall. To me, the reason for a recall is for some criminal-type activity, not a difference of opinion. The way I look at it, this whole thing started on June 9 when we terminated our city manager. As far as I’m concerned, as a council now, we’re at June 10."

The Baker County clerk’s office says 55 percent of the city’s voters cast ballots in the recall.

The next scheduled city council meeting is Tuesday, November 10.
