Weather forecasters say heavy rains expected this week across much of Western Oregon could bring more flooding. High winds are also expected along the coast.

Last week's flooding was blamed for two deaths and soaked cities up and down the Willamette valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch from this afternoon through Thursday afternoon for much of northwest Oregon. Forecasters say heavy rain and snow melt are expected to cause rivers and creeks to rise quickly. A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

More heavy rain is expected on the Oregon coast. Winds there could gust to 65 mph.

The Oregon Transportation Department is warning motorists to be alert for any new potholes or traffic hazards caused by winter weather.

A stretch of U.S. Highway 101 that was closed last week south of Newport when a 60-foot-long sinkhole opened up had reopened by Monday night.

Agency spokesman Rick Little says workers took emergency action to stabilize the area, rebuild the highway foundation and pave the new roadway.
