Adams Returns To Work At City Hall
Portland Mayor Sam Adams returned to work Monday, but brushed off questions from a swarm of reporters about the sex scandal surrounding him.
Sam Adams: "I'm happy to answer questions about city business."
Adams blew into council chambers a few minutes before a 10 o'clock meeting with regional leaders on the Columbia River Crossing. He'd attended a regional education meeting earlier in the day.
Adams announced Sunday that he'll continue serving his term.
Investigators are determining whether he breached age of consent laws in the summer of 2005.
Outside city hall this morning, two protestors carried signs calling for Adams to step down.
Jay Angel of Lake Oswego, who works in Portland, says this was the first day he could get off work to protest.
Jay Angel: "This isn't just going to go away, and we're going to continue to stay here until he resigns."
At least two groups are working either to push Adams to resign or to recall him. Elections rules prohibit a recall until at least this summer.
