While winter's not always the best time for some sports, it's a perfect time to dream up your next summer adventure.

Joe Kurmaskie is a journalist, living in Portland, who does a lot of magazine work. But in his off-hours, he takes bicycle trips that most of us would only dream of.

This past summer, he talked his wife and three kids into riding tandem bikes three thousand miles across Canada. He stopped by OPB's studios to tell Morning Edition host April Baer all about it.

And how's Joe Kurmaskie spending the rainy winter months? Planning his next adventure, of course.

He says he's trying to rig a winter trip to New Zealand, where the seasons are reversed.
