Pressure Heats Up As Health Care Vote Nears
The National Republican Campaign Committee is spending some cash to call voters in the Northwest. They’re hoping to put last-minute heat on two Representatives.
Democrats Kurt Schrader and Brian Baird have been keeping their votes close to the vest this week. They say they’re still reading through the 150-pages of the health care bill that is slated for a House vote this weekend.
Joanna Burgos with the NRCC confirms that the Committee’s “Code Red” program is taking aim at both Northwest Dems.
“The time is definitely running out. We want to make sure that constituents know how to get in contact with their current congressman and tell him how they want him to vote on health care,” Burgos said.
The outreach comes in the form of robo-calls, that will be heard in populated parts of the Willamette Valley represented by Schrader, and also in Clark County, to cover Baird’s constituents.
The NRCC says it’s also encouraging voters in Baird’s district to call candidates in the race to replace him.
There are three declared Republicans and five Democrats in that Congressional race.
Neither Baird nor Schrader was available for comment.
