Washington County Judge Confirms Serrano Death Sentence

A Washington County judge confirmed the death sentence Tuesday for a man convicted of killing a woman and her two sons.

Condemned killer, Ricardo Serrano didn’t address the sentencing judge, Steven Price. Serrano was convicted last month of retaliating against his wife’s lover, by killing the man’s girlfriend and her children in 2006.

Relatives of the late Melody Dang and her children were in the courtroom. Dang’s boyfriend at the center of the revenge killings was one of only two people to address the court.

Both spoke against any leniency for Serrano.

The Serrano family members didn’t address the judge, but they did shake their heads in disagreement at some things the victims’ supporters said.

The proceeding lasted barely 30 minutes.  In the end, Judge Price confirmed the death sentence.

He also directed Serrano to pay more than $300,000 to offset the cost of his defense.

Oregon has only executed two men in almost five decades.

Serrano will become the 33rd man on Oregon’s Death Row.
