Recallers Seek Second Shot At Sam
A second campaign has been launched to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams. April Baer reports.
The petition for recall says Adams lied about relations with a younger man, and covered up his actions to get elected.
Former State Senator Avel Gordly is chief petitioner on papers filed at the city auditor’s office.
The campaign will have 90 days to gather over 32,000 signatures to get on the ballot.
Gordly says after seeing the first recall effort fail for lack of signatures, the new campaign will not be a volunteer effort.
Avel Gordly: “I think what was missing the first time around was having the paid signature gatherers so we can have that broader reach.”
Key leaders are Karin Hansen, who’s married to former Portland Mayor Tom Potter, political consultant Jack Kane, and Gordly.
Adams is in Washington, D.C. this week for the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
He said he’s keeping his focus on job creation and education, and that nothing would distract him from that. He declined to say whether he’s raising money to fight the recall.
