Vancouver, WA November 6, 2009 1:35 p.m.
Royce Pollard has conceded the Vancouver Mayor’s race. It’s the beginning of the end of his fourteen years in office. April Baer reports.
Pollard lost a tough re-election campaign to Tim Leavitt, a city councilor and civil engineer.
The loss wasn’t really close, with 9 percentage points separating the two.
With tears in his eyes, the gruff former Army officer said it was a hard day.
Royce Pollard “I’ve had worse, but I’d rank this pretty high.”
Still, Pollard characterized his mood as positive, and said he has no intention of disappearing.
Royce Pollard “I’m optimistic about the future, I look forward to the future. One door closes, other doors will open for me. So I’m looking forward to being involved in this community.”
Pollard made his short concession speech to a packed room at City Hall. Supporters gave him a standing ovation.
Results of the election will be certified later this month. Leavitt’s working on a transition team.
