Shots Hit Rep. Defazio's Eugene Office
Eugene, OR October 30, 2009 9:56 a.m.
The FBI is investigating shots fired at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Eugene sometime Wednesday night or early this Thursday morning.
Several public officials have offices in the Courthouse – including U.S. Representative Peter Defazio. KLCC’s Jes Burns reports.
The FBI says at least 4 shots were fired at the courthouse, and three of them struck and broke the windows of the office of U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio. A fourth bullet hit the wall of the building near the other three.
Beth Anne Steele is with the FBI.
Beth Anne Steele: "At this point we don’t know if Representative DeFazio was a target or if his office was a target. We’re really looking for the public’s help in identifying who is responsible for this and again what their motive is.”
Steele says Representatives DeFazio’s staff initially discovered the damage to the office when they came to work Thursday morning.
The FBI is working with the Eugene Police Department, the U.S. Marshal Service and the Federal Protective Service.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI in Eugene at 541-343-5222.
