Former State Senator To Head Up Second Recall Effort
Portland, OR October 21, 2009 4:14 p.m.
The effort to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams has gained an ally. Former State Senator Avel Gordley will be the campaign's chief petitioner. April Baer reports.
Gordley is one of the few figures with political ties who's called publicly for a recall.
Adams dodged a bullet when the initial volunteer effort to gather recall petition signatures fell short.
Now, a second effort is in the organizational stage.
Gordley says she feels political questions about Adams remain unresolved.
Avel Gordley "It's really important for people to understand none of this is personal. It is very much about the character, the values, and integrity of our city."
The recall effort against Adams started because he lied about a relationship he had with a teenager before being elected mayor.
Gordley says she was approached for the campaign by Karin Hansen, a retired teacher who's married to former Portland Mayor Tom Potter.
The second recall, Portland FuturePAC, has yet to file papers to begin raising and spending money.
In the interest of full disclosure: Avel Gordley sits on OPB's board.
