Portland Woman Receives Caring Award For Crisis Center Work
Portland, OR October 13, 2009 8:29 a.m.
Tuesday, a Portland woman will be recognized as one of the most caring people in the world.
Paula Lucas will receive one of ten Caring Awards, which recognizes those who exhibit exceptional care and public service.
Paula Lucas is the founder and Executive Director of the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
It’s a toll-free hotline for American women overseas, who are in abusive relationships and want to come home.
She says a lot of people think the U.S. State Department can help women in these situations. Not always.
Two of the other recipients of the award are former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and John Dau: one of the Lost Boys of the Sudan.
