Employment Department Online/Phone System Goes Down

The Oregon Employment Department is scrambling to get its phone and computer systems back to a hundred percent this morning.

This past Sunday, thousands of out-of-work Oregonians were frustrated when they tried to file their unemployment claims, because of a big system-wide failure.

For an update, we talked with Deparment Spokesman Craig Spivey.

I was perplexed to hear the technical difficulties experienced by the Unemployment Department described as a SNAFU by the OPB Reporter. I had no idea that the situation at Unemployment was normally ā€œFā€˜dā€ up. I am guessing that the reporter meant to say that there was a glitch. After all, they had the computer system up and running in a short period of time, so it must not have been FUBAR.
