Recall Effort Fails To Gather Enough Signatures

The campaign to recall Mayor Sam Adams failed to meet its signature-gathering goals by Monday's deadline. April Baer reports.

Campaign volunteers did not turn in any petitions Monday. Chief petitioner Jasun Wurster says the campaign gathered tens of thousands of signatures, but that the petitions wouldn't pass the city auditor's validation tests.

With no signatures turned in, that claim is impossible to verify. Wurster offered one reason the recall might have foundered.

Jasun Wurster "I learned that doing a recall campaign during a brutally hot summer when you have a 106 degree temperature isn't very conducive to getting signatures."

Mayor Sam Adams has kept mostly mum about the recall effort. He did not return a phone call for comment on the campaign's failure.

Adams' website now features congratulations tweeted in by his supporters.
