Adams Recall Petitions Due Monday
Portland, OR October 5, 2009 8:40 a.m.
Monday marks the deadline to turn in petitions to recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams. April Baer reports.
The recall campaign has been gathering signatures since July. Petitioners say they're dissatisfied with Mayor Adams' dishonesty about a sexual relationship with a man who was seventeen when the two met.
Chief petitioner Jasun Wurster won't say how many signatures the recall has gathered so far.
Jasun Wurster "If we were to release a number, people would either think, 'Oh, it's too high, they're going to make it' or 'Oh, it's too low, there's no chance."
Wurster says the campaign is accepting petitions til twelve-o-clock, and will hold a news conference Monday afternoon, before the 5 p.m. cutoff for signature submissions.
Wurster says if the campaign doesn't get enough signatures, he will not submit the signatures into the public record.
