Two Fast-Moving Wildfires Still Challenge Oregon Crews

Crews continue to grapple with two fast-moving wildfires in Oregon.

The Tumblebug Complex Fire 24 miles southeast of Oakridge has grown to more than 9000 acres. It's 5 percent contained.

The Boze Fire east of Roseburg is more than 10,000 acres and at 35 percent containment. KLCC's Rachael McDonald reports.

The dry, hot weather coupled with east winds pushed the Tumblebug Fire west. The blaze is burning in the Willamette National Forest and not threatening any homes or structures. Northwest Incident Management Team spokeswoman Alexis West says crews continue to face dangerous fire behavior.

Alexis West: "Well, firefighters are dealing with a number of conditions which increase the need for situational awareness, which is a constant in firefighting. But add to that, green trees are falling, as well as snags. And those, it just takes a whisper of wind and something's coming down."

Marine air has pushed smoke out of the South Willamette Valley. But now, people in Central Oregon are experiencing hazy skies. Air quality in Oakridge is still unhealthy.

Fire officials are holding an information meeting Thursday in Oakridge at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
