Gordon Smith To Head National Association Of Broadcasters
Portland, OR September 18, 2009 11:31 a.m.
Former Oregon Senator Gordon Smith has been hired as the new president and CEO of the National Association of Broadcasters.
The NAB lobbies on behalf of radio and television stations, primarily for commercial broadcasters.
Smith is expected to use his 12 years of experience as a Republican senator to spearhead those efforts, starting November 1st.
Executive vice president Dennis Wharton says the NAB appreciated Smith’s varied experience as a businessman, lawyer, and politician.
Dennis Wharton: “He served on the Senate Commerce committee which overseas broadcast-related issues. He’s very interested in high-technology and new media. He reaches across party aisles and is not considered a partisan in any way. And for that reason and many more – that’s why we picked him.”
In a statement, former senator, Smith, called the job at NAB “an opportunity of a lifetime.”
