Ballots Due In Washington Primary Election
Portland, OR August 17, 2009 6 a.m.
Washington State voters still have two days left to get their ballots in for Tuesday's primary election. April Baer reports.
This year's primary is nothing compared with last year's but the Clark County Elections division says important races are on the ballot, including contested matchups for Vancouver Mayor and two City Council seats.
The only primary races that appear on the ballot are those with three or more candidates. Tim Likeness is the County's elections supervisor.
Tim Likeness: "We anticipate we'll probably have about a 25 percent turnout for the primary, and the general, in November, when everyone will have several races to vote on, we anticipate about a 45 to 50 percent turnout."
Washington rules are slightly more forgiving than Oregon's. Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday.
Keep in mind, it's no good if you drop a ballot in a mailbox after a letter carrier has cleared it out for the day. Of course, you can also take advantage of the county's ballot drop boxes -- found at schools and some community centers -- if you want to be sure.
