Brandon Roy Signs 5-Year Deal With Blazers

After a month of negotiations, the Portland Trail Blazers and star guard, Brandon Roy, celebrated their new five-year contract. Rob Manning has more.

Roy says talking to his former coach at the University of Washington helped relieve his frustration with the slow pace of contract talks.

Both Blazers’ officials and Roy say they’re thrilled with the five-year maximum contract expected to pay the former Rookie of the Year about $80 million.

With his two-year-old son, Brandon junior, on his lap, Roy professed his loyalty to the Blazers, over the apparent objections of his toddler.

Brandon Roy:  “You know, honestly, from my first year of being a part of this organization, I knew this was where I wanted to be for a long time.”

Brandon Roy Jr.: “No, Dada.”

The Blazers’ general manager, Kevin Pritchard, says the team’s focus has already turned to re-signing Roy’s star teammate, LaMarcus Aldridge.

Roy and Aldridge both joined the Blazers in 2006.

They’re considered two of the biggest reasons the team made the playoffs last season, for the first time in six years.
