The University of Oregon’s Index of Economic Indicators fell by almost 1 percent in June. Economist Tim Duy says it shows the state is likely still in recession.

Tim Duy: “It was somewhat of a disappointing outcome, because we’ve three months of stability in the previous three indicators. But it’s interesting that this recent downturn was attributable to two significant declines.”

The first was a drop in jobs at temporary help firms. And the second was the continued anemic performance of the construction industry. Building permits remain at historically low levels.

Duy says overall, Oregon’s economy looks to be bumping along the bottom, waiting for a turn around -- which could begin later this year.
