Time Running Out For Kulongoski To Issue Vetoes
Salem, OR August 3, 2009 4:43 p.m.
Time is running out for Oregon's Governor to veto bills from the 2009 Legislative session.
Democrat Ted Kulongoski is threatening to give the thumbs down to five pieces of legislation. Salem Correspondent Chris Lehman reports.
The newest veto threat involves a rollback of tax credits for energy efficiency projects like wind farms and solar panels.
Kulongoski says trimming the tax break would hurt efforts to create so-called green jobs in Oregon.
Another veto threat also involves the environment. The Governor is threatening to reject a measure that would allow more projects to qualify as renewable energy.
Kulongoski says doing so would undercut efforts to move the state away from traditional energy sources.
The Governor is also hinting at vetoes of two other bills and parts of a judicial budget cut. He has until next Monday to make up his mind.
Earlier the Governor vetoed an education spending plan but lawmakers overrode that move in the final days of the session.
