Napolitano Cuts Ribbon For Olympics Coordination Center

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano toured the U.S.-Canada border in northwest Washington Monday.

She went there to review preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, B.C.

Napolitano cut the ribbon to open a new $4 million communications center in Bellingham. That's where federal, state, and local officials will coordinate the response to anything that goes wrong next February and affects border traffic or American soil.

Janet Napolitano: “Here's the way you have to look at these things, you hope for the best; you plan for the worst. And if you haven't prepared, exercised, done all of those things in advance, you will not be in a position to protect human security, human life.“

Monday, Napolitano was in back-to-back meetings. She's talking about counterterrorism measures at the Port of Seattle.

She's meeting with Microsoft officials to discuss cybersecurity. Finally, her staff organized a roundtable meeting about immigration.
