Former Mayor Potter Backs Recall Effort On Facebook Page
Portland, OR July 13, 2009 1:52 p.m.
The campaign to recall Sam Adams as Mayor of Portland just got a high-profile endorsement -- from former mayor, Tom Potter. April Baer reports.
Facebook friends of Potter's wife Karin Hansen have seen the endorsement, but they're the only ones. The recall's chief petitioner, Jasun Wurster confirms that Potter posted a comment supportive of the recall on Hansen's page. But he says it wasn't something the campaign solicited.
Jasun Wurster: "We are not actively targeting elected officials to be part of this campaign. What we need is volunteers. And we are surprised, elated that Tom Potter has shown the leadership to support the campaign."
Wurster says he will not ask Potter to do any fundraising or other activities to help with signature gathering beyond what the recall is asking of other Portlanders.
And Adams' office has not commented on Potter's endorsement of the recall. By law, city resources can't be used for election-related matters.
